What is 2-1-1?

2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember telephone number that connects people with important health and
human services programs throughout the communities of Utah.

  • 2-1-1 is a statewide program of Utah Food Bank Services.
  • Easily accessed by any phone; calls are free and confidential.

  • Multi-lingual/TTY/TTD; calls are accessible in 140 languages.

  • Trained Information Specialists assess situations, make appropriate referrals and monitor the needs of our communities.

  • As of March 2009, 2-1-1 serves over 234 million Americans (more than 78% of the entire population) covering all or part of 46 states (including 31 states with 90%+ coverage) plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico. The remaining states are all in various stages of planning and implementation. Every few weeks, these coverage numbers increase.

  • 1,200 agencies and over 600 programs are currently listed in the Utah 2-1-1 resource database reporting.

  • 2-1-1 answered more than 114,000 calls in 2009.

  • 2-1-1 acts as a social barometer gauging the needs in our communities and the agencies serving those in need.

  • The top needs of 2-1-1 callers are housing, healthcare and food.
